I’ll be teaching here! At the most beautiful yarn shop in the world and I am so happy about it!
I was lucky enough to visit Tolt Yarns and Wool after Vogue Knitting Live Seattle. It was just a week ago and I’m still walking on air. The nicest folks. I even got to take the irrepressible, Icelandic goddess Ragga‘s Mini Lopapeysa class. A total total treat! I love to take classes and I almost never get to…too busy teaching them. But that day my friend Sandy let me take her place since she had work to do…which I’ll tell you about in a little bit.
Tolt Yarns and Wool is in beautiful Carnation Washington, located in the Snoqualmie Valley east of Seattle. When I grew up they called it “the land of contented cows”, referencing the dairy located there. In fact the town name changed names from Tolt – after the river that runs through it – to Carnation to honor the dairy.
The store, the store, the store! Anna Dianich has created the most exceptional, wonderful feeling shop. Beauty in every direction. She and her husband restored an old historic building in the heart of the tiny “downtown” with loving attention to detail. When they couldn’t justify keeping the badly distressed floors, they salvaged the wood and used it for the walls! Having helped to build my own home I am especially impressed with the concrete floors, much like ours, only they used a brown pigment which makes them look almost like leather. The yarn, of course we need to talk about the yarn, displayed in all manner of interesting ways in unusual cabinets and one of a kind furniture. And what about the selection – so much wonderful stuff – I couldn’t resist – you can bet I have waaaaay to much yarn – except it is all in Maine, so you know, I had to get some … I got a boat load of Lopi …ostensibly for my class… only do you think it takes 14 skeins to make this?
But I’m sure you understand…and that’s not all I got….which I know you also understand. As if the shop and the class were not enough, I had a knock out fangirl moment. Dottie Angel – Tif – works in the shop sometimes. Yes of the mossy shed and all things spiffy and fine, there she was. O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! We talked of guinea pigs and Morrocco and it was most wonderful.Observe her fabby green boots.
So what’s up? I’m teaching a class. FAIR ISLE FUN !!! Yes indeedly there are only spaces for 10, so if you’re in the area sign up and join us on April 8, 10 am to 5 pm. We’ll relax and have fun knitting sensible and sensational wristletts or fingerless mitts whatever you like. There’s lots of yarn in the shop eminently suitable for our work. My friend Sandy helped Anna select a billion colors of Jamieson Spindrift, which is just the ticket. There’s also Elemental Affects and other nice choices, so if your stash is lacking (isn’t it always?!) no worries, Tolt Yarns and Wool has it covered. Call 425-333-4066 to sign up.
