Our acrylic friends – only in Peru knitters often re-spin it for an ultra-tight twist – to assist in achieving tiny stitches.

HI Mary Jane
I dont’ get it…they are overspinning singles? Doubles? Acrylic? I’m curious as I’m going to Peru this summer…anywhere I should be looking for knitting/spinning technique? thanks!
They are overspinning acrylic doubles. You will see women spinning all over the Andes. Go to the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco, Avenida Sol 603, Cusco, for great demonstrations and fabulous naturally dyed woven textiles.
Sadly, you just can’t beat acrylic for the prices and colors. Acrylic is all over Turkey too, almost impossible to find natural fibers at the yarn shops or outdoor markets.
I’m dying to get to Turkey, last time I was there I was a child. I got a bunch of “antique” chullos, acrylic, and faded to beautiful pastels, the insides are still brilliant glowing colors!
