Hunting Season Calls for a New Hat

November 8, 2009 by Mary Jane 6 Comments

I always like to have a pretty hat for hunting season. I don’t hunt but I walk in the woods, and here in Maine you can be ticketed if you’re not wearing 2 items of Blaze Orange. I’ve been inspired to cable since taking Annie Modesitt’s Cable Mania class. I hope to finish this hat this morning, for my trek up Bald Rock at noon.

…Trouble is, I’m distracted by Breton Food…a friend is coming over to make Galettes … and we’ve included a few more guests, so I decided to make Far Breton for desert in addition to the planned Apple Pie…and well, fearful there won’t be enough food, and since galettes are a sort of “hurry up and wait” kind of food – one-at-a-time cooking – I’ve got a leg of lamb in the oven, baking with hard cider for 7 hours.

Never…I never overcompensate!

I’m with you Mary Jane. I always panic that someone will leave my table hungry. Hasn’t happened yet, but always a concern. The lamb sounds yummy. I miss being able to shop for lamb in my freezer. We stopped raising our own about 3 years ago and nothing compares. But the cider and the apple pie is still homegrown.

Actually wanted a better view of the hat for your honey. I couldn’t enlarge it and wondered if you could re post as a bigger pic just like your hunting hat.I think my husband does the same thing with his hat bands, what is that all about?

    Have a nice Sunday.

It can get kind of scary in the woods this time of year, but not if you’ve got your orange hat. I love the cabling that’s going on there. Sorry I missed you at Rhinebeck. I’ve already started dreaming about Rhinebeck 2010, so perhaps we’ll meet up then.

Here in Philadelphia where you have to buy beer and hard cider by the case we need recipes that call for everything we can’t drink. I NEED that lamb recipe.

    What a hat!!!
